Sermon Series - Transformation of the Heart
Heart

After our message this past Sunday on the church, I would like to take a moment to thank all of you who faithfully serve week in and week out. It is amazing to see all that God is doing at Front Street, and it is humbling that He has chosen to work though His children. I hope you will hold on to the truths from this past Sunday that no one’s job at Front Street is any more important or any less important than anyone else’s. To God be the glory for all He is accomplishing through His children at Front Street. Thank you for submitting your will to be used by Him.

This week we will talk about submitting our will in tithing. To some, this is a bad word or a scary word. To others, it is the preacher’s best attempt to guilt people into giving to their church. I hope you will join us this Sunday as we look at what tithing is and what tithing is not. When we see that tithing is not about the church but is about our relationship with Christ, we begin to look at it in a different light. Tithing is not something we do because of guilt. Tithing is a privilege and an act of worship to Almighty God. For those who are living transformed lives, they understand that tithing is one of the ways we follow the Lord in obedience.

I hope you will join us Sunday morning as we explore God’s Word concerning the subject of tithing. During your personal study time this week, look at what the Lord says about tithing in the book of Malachi chapter 3.

New Handicap Ramp and Parking Needs

The new handicap ramp is open for your use. In about a month, we anticipate the removal of the existing ramp so that construction on the restrooms can be started. There will be a period of time that it will be necessary to close the east portion of the new ramp from the landing in front of the Sanctuary to the covered walkway. We apologize ahead of time for any inconvenience this will cause. We will try to alert you to this situation when it happens.

Over the years, we have had numerous incidents that could have very easily resulted in vehicle accidents or personal injury to people parking and/or unloading on Front Street. Drivers are surprised to find parked vehicles in what is normally an open lane of traffic. We would like to take this opportunity to strongly encourage you to begin parking off the street in one of the parking lots. We are aware that more handicap parking spaces convenient to the new ramp will probably be needed. We will be checking this situation weekly and there are two things you can do to help us determine our needs. First, display your handicapped placard when parked in this area (even if you are not in a handicap space); this will allow us to better judge the quantity of handicap spaces needed. Second, should you experience parking problems in the future, please let the church office know about it. It is our desire to make sure we have adequate designated handicap parking spaces available while not restricting more than would normally be used.

We appreciate your patience as we work through these two situations.

Casting Call for the Statesville Easter Pageant
In the next few weeks, people will be contacted about playing drama roles in this year's Easter Pageant. In the past, people often kept their same roles from year to year. As we examined the former cast list, we realized that many people have aged out of the role they played. We also realized that many new members of our church need to have the opportunity to participate in the ministry in this way. For these reasons, we are wiping the slate clean and re-doing the entire cast list. There may be a few people who return in their previous roles, but most characters in the pageant will be played by different people.

Two important roles have been cast. Jerry Helmandollar will play the role of adult Jesus. The narrator role this year will be played by Daniel Harmon.

For many years (beginning about 25 years ago), Steve Somers played the role of Jesus in the Living Easter and the Statesville Easter Pageant. Steve "retired" from that role after our last Easter Pageant. Many lives were positively changed by the wonderful, compassionate way that he portrayed our Savior. I am so thankful for his years of influence and his sweet spirit. Thank you, Steve!

I am also pleased (and overjoyed) to announce that Kim Mottinger will be the drama director for this year's Pageant. I have extreme confidence in her fine work.

In the next few weeks, I will be letting you know of many opportunities that are available to you in this ministry. The Pageant requires well over 200 volunteers to present each time.
