A Word From the
Pastor
Lib
Chapman
Lib
Chapman has been at our church since she and her family moved
here in 1945 when her father, Rev. Holland, was
called as pastor. In 1950, Lib began working in the
nursery at Front Street. For the last fifty-seven years, she
has faithfully served Christ and His church through the
pre-school ministry at Front Street. As we shared in the
worship service this past Sunday, Lib will be moving to the
Charlotte area to be near her daughter. Words cannot
express our deep appreciation for Lib's humble and sacrificial
service. Please take time over these next couple of
weeks to express our gratitude for Lib and all she means to
our church. Thank you Lib for living out before us what
it means to be a fully devoted follower of Christ.
Please know that you will be missed greatly but the
impact that you have made will live on for eternity.
Deacon
Nominations
It is time once
again for the church body to nominate deacons for the upcoming
church year. The Deacon Body is charged with the
responsibility to minister to the physical and spiritual needs
of the church body extending to our Saints at Home and Saints
in Care. The function of the Deacon Body is to give
leadership for the spiritual development of the members
through personal example and deed.
As you think
through the nominating process, read through the
qualifications listed in 1 Timothy 3:8-13. Likewise
deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to
much wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of the
faith with a pure conscience. But let these also first
be tested: then let them serve as deacons, being found
blameless. Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not
slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. Let
deacons be the husband of one wife, ruling their children and
their houses well. For those who have served well as
deacons obtain for themselves a good standing and great
boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
The deadline for
nominations is Sunday, July 8. You can submit your
nominations in writing and/or by calling the church office.
Each nominee will be screened by the deacon leadership.
After much prayer and examination, the deacon leadership
will present a list of candidates to be voted on at the Family
Business Meeting, August 12th.

Prayer
Point
How Do You
View Prayer?
Changing your
view can change your life. How do you view
prayer? Do you view time spent with God as a duty or a
delight? a chore or a celebration? If you were
completely honest, would you have to say that, for you,
prayer is more like talking to a stone wall than to an
intimate friend?
Philip Yancey, in
his book, "Prayer, Does It Make Any Difference?", says that
prayer is simply "keeping company with God". As good
friends would do, we simply talk to God about what is on our
minds. All through our day we "keep company" with Him by
talking to Him and listening as He talks to us. This is
the example Jesus set for us in the gospels. Surely the
disciples knew how to pray using "learned"
recitations, but they longed for the spontaneous
communion that Jesus had with the Father. That's why
they asked, "Teach us to pray".
Many of us are
still living BC (before Christ) when it comes to our prayer
life. Jesus freed us from the bondage of
formality. He wants us to approach Him about any and
every thing that concerns us--and He promises to listen!
(Psalms 116:1-2) If you've had a particularly good day,
talk to Him about it. The significance of the events
will become clearer as you discuss them with Him. If
you've had a bad day, cry out to Him. He is the God of
comfort, consolation, peace, and perspective.
As your friendship
with God grows through your private prayer life, you will be a
great help to beginning pray-ers when we come together for
family prayer time. Your spontaneity will inspire others
to voice their prayers. One thing that concerns me
greatly about our corporate prayer times is that more women do
not pray out loud. In Galatians 3:28, Paul explains that
we are one in Christ. God values the prayers of each one
of His children. God wants to hear you pray! He
also wants you to build others up in the faith through your
prayers.
And please remember to pray for Vacation Bible
School.

THANK YOU!
I would like to thank everyone at Front Street on
behalf of the family for your prayers and financial
assistance in Brenda's time of need. She probably
would be the last to ask for help if she needed it, and even
then, be reluctant in doing so. Brenda is a strong
lady and has had time to prepare herself for Dave's passing
away, but that never makes it any easier. My uncle
Dave has gone to a much better place and Brenda knows that.
So, on behalf of
my aunt Brenda and her family, I want to say thank you for
everything. God is truly going to bless Front Street
for their caring and support.
In Christ,
Steve DeVore
Dear Front Street Family,

Thanks so much to Tim and Kenny. Jeff, thank you so
much for your special support and prayers. This is a
