A Word From the Pastor

Freedom in Jesus Christ

This week's message is about our Freedom in Jesus Christ. In Colossians 2:16-23, Paul comes out strong against the three main heresies facing the Christian believers in Colossae. In the introduction to the book of Colossians, I shared with you that Paul's reason for writing the book was to reject Jewish legalism, Greek mysticism and harsh treatment of self to gain self-righteousness. Paul wants the people to know without question that Jesus Christ is the Only One who can bring righteousness to us. He is the Only One sufficient to save us from our sins.

Today, many Christians struggle with similar things. Many Christians are in bondage to guilt and shame because of their sins. In our minds, we know that Christ is sufficient and that He has forgiven us. In our heart though, we feel that we must punish ourselves or live under legalism in order to feel that we are right with God.

This coming Sunday, my prayer is that we realize the freedom that comes in knowing, loving and serving Christ. Christ does not desire that we should live in bondage any longer. Godly living is not produced from legalism. Only those who are walking in the Spirit are able to live lives that bring glory to the Majestic One, Jesus Christ.

For His glory,

Pastor Tim

Summer Sunday Night Schedule

Below is the schedule for Sunday nights between now and September. Please mark your calendars!

July 22 - Report on Mission Trips (6:00)

July 29 - Enjoy a night off with your families!

August 5 - Sunday School Fellowships

August 12 - Family Business Meeting (6:00)

August 19 - Family Worship Night (6:00)

August 26 - AWANA and Youth Kick-off

The Front Street Youth will be having our annual Home Mission Trip July 29th - August 4th.

We need the congregation's help in several ways.  First, begin praying now for the work that our youth will be doing, for their safety, for good weather for our scheduled outdoor activities and for the lives that they will have an opportunity to impact.  Second, we need extra adult volunteers.  If you have any available time, especially during the day on Thursday and Friday, we would love to have you join us.  Third, we are asking for donations of the following items:

hot dogs, buns, chili, mustard, ketchup, chips (large and individual bags), cookies, drinks, cereal, Pop Tarts, milk, juice, spreadable margarine, sandwich bread, sub rolls, lunch meats, cheese slices, mayonnaise, peanut butter, jelly, Ziploc sandwich bags, snack foods, fruit (for the youth and for fruit baskets - apples, bananas, oranges, grapes, etc.) & baskets.

This year we will be hosting up to 125 children from the Boys and Girls Club of Iredell County.  Sixth through ninth grade students will be coming on Thursday, August 2nd and Kindergarten through fifth graders will be here on Friday, August 3rd.  Both groups will be here from 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM.  We will be serving hot dog lunches both days so we will be needing lots of supplies for those days.  We will also be working with Habitat for Humanity, the YMCA summer camp and the Hispanic VBS.  Our youth will also have the privilege of visiting with some of Front Street's Saints at Home.

We are looking forward to a wonderful week!

Prayer Point

Heaven's Switchboard

Most of us have resigned ourselves to the fact that voicemail is an irritating, yet necessary part of our lives.  Consider what it would be like if God installed voicemail on Heaven's switchboard.  Imagine praying and hearing the following:

Thank you for calling Heaven.

                    For English press 1

                    For Spanish press 2

For all other languages, press 3

Please select one of the following options:

                    Press 1 for requests

                    Press 2 for thanksgiving

Press 3 for complaints (we'd never get through on this

                               line)

                    Press 4 for all others

I am sorry; all our angels are busy helping other sinners right now.  However, your prayer is important to us, and we will answer it in the order it was received.  Please stay on the line.

If you would like to speak to:

                     God, press 1

                     Jesus, press 2

                     Holy Spirit, press 3

To find a loved one who has been assigned to Heaven press five, and then enter his or her Social Security number followed by the pound sign.  If you receive a negative response, please hang up and dial area code 666.

For reservations to Heaven, please enter J-O-H-N followed by the numbers, 3:16.

For answers to nagging questions about dinosaurs and life on other planets, please wait until you arrive in Heaven.

The office is now closed for the weekend to observe a religious holiday.

If you are calling after hours and need emergency assistance, please contact your pastor.

Thank you and have a heavenly day.
