Update from the Family Business Meeting
This past Sunday night the church body voted on the following issues:
Election of Deacons:The church body voted to elect the following men to serve as deacons: Bob Cook, Benny Elledge, Ronnie Harmon, Don Lourcey, Dale McLelland, Grady Pharr, Matt Sharpe, Paul Snead, and David Stegall. These men will serve a three year term beginning this September.
Empowering the Church: The church body voted to approve the Empowering the Church document. This document includes the Church Council's strategic plan, the unified church budget and the nominating committee report for 2007-2008. You can pick up a copy of this report at the Welcome Center located in the vestibule of the sanctuary.
Search Committee:The church voted to ask the Governing Council to develop a slate of names to bring before the church body to serve on the search committee for the Senior Adult and Care Pastor. Once the Governing Council has developed this list, the nominations will be brought before the church for ratification.
This coming Sunday, my family and I will be in Texas visiting my sister. Pastor Jeremy will be preaching this Sunday. Please keep my family in your prayers as we travel and also pray for Pastor Jeremy as he shares his heart this Sunday.
For His glory, Pastor Tim |
Summer Sunday Night Schedule
Below is the schedule for Sunday nights between now and September. Please mark your calendars!
August 19 - Easter Pageant Video Presentation in the Fellowship Hall (6:00)
August 26 - AWANA, Children's Choirs and Youth Kick-off |
Prayer Point
A Matter of the Heart
I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone.
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
What if we flipped through it several times a day?
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
What if we gave it to kids as gifts?
What if we used it when we traveled?
What if we used it in case of emergency?
"Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord (the only Lord). And you shall love the Lord your God with all your (mind and) heart and with your entire being and with all your might. And these words which I am commanding you this day shall be (first) in your own minds, and hearts; (then) you shall whet and sharpen them so as to make them penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the (minds and) hearts of your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up, and you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets (forehead bands) between your eyes. And you shall write them upon the doorposts of your house and on your gates." - Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Amp.
The same goes for prayer:
"Devote yourselves to prayer." - Col. 4:2; "And (we) will give ourselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word." - Acts 6:4
Unlike our cell phone, we don't have to worry about ever being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill in full.
And guess what? With Heaven's plan we have unlimited minutes!
And no dropped calls!
Who would pass up a deal like that? Makes you stop and think, "Where are my priorities?"
It's a matter of the heart.
His servant and your friend,
ginny stikeleather

Children in Action
Christmas in August
During the month of August, our Children in Action groups will be involved in Christmas in August. Many have participated with this mission project in the past and are aware of the impact it has had on missionaries' lives. This year, both CIA groups (1-3) and (4-6) will join efforts to collect items for missionary Bill Veil. Bill is a missionary in charge of Inner Harbor Ministry in Maryland. The following items will be collected during the entire month of August. Please drop off your items at any of the "Christmas" collection boxes around the church. This year, we can also donate gift cards from Walmart, Sam's or Target. If you have those, please give them to one of our CIA leaders: Sherwyn Beaver, Martha Courier, Kisha Clark or Debbie Stewart.
We look forward to seeing what God will do through this opportunity to serve!
