A Word From the Pastor

Lottie Moon Walk - December 9

"How many million more souls are to pass into eternity without having heard the name of Jesus?" That question, ubiquitous in the letters of Lottie Moon, seared her heart as she planted her life as a missionary to China a century ago. During the past five generations, Southern Baptists have been motivated by Lottie Moon to plant their lives in missions by going or supporting others who are carrying the gospel light into the darkness.

In 1888, Southern Baptist women organized and helped collect $3,315 to send workers to China - the first Southern Baptist offering for foreign missions.  This past year, Southern Baptists exceeded the 2006 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering goal of $150 million, delivering the largest gift in the offering's 119-year history.  The grand total was $150,178,098.06, an 8.9 percent increase over the previous year's $137.9 million. In 1918, Woman's Missionary Union named the annual Christmas offering for international missions after Lottie Moon, who had urged them to start it. Moon sent frequent letters to the United States, telling of her work with the Chinese people and about their physical and spiritual needs. She also challenged Southern Baptists to go to China or give so that others could go.  Today the offering supports the work of more than 5,100 missionaries throughout the world.

Russia is the International Mission Board's focus for the 2007 Lottie Moon offering.  When the Soviet Union, one of the world's largest military empires, collapsed in 1991, mapmakers scrambled to keep up as new nations emerged. But an even more extraordinary change was taking place: At long last, Christians could share their faith openly!

Southern Baptists responded with prayer and by going to work in these newly independent states. Fifteen years later, great lostness remains in the two regions containing former Soviet Union countries.

Please ask the Lord what He would have you give this Sunday to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.  Our church goal is $17,000.00.

Seeking Him with you,

Pastor Tim

Just a Couple of Hours of Your Time...

The choir desperately needs loving volunteers to staff the nursery during choir rehearsals each Wednesday evening from 7:40 - 9:00 p.m.  If you are willing to be placed in a rotational schedule (perhaps once a month), please contact the church office or Kenny Lamm.  Your help is vital to the continuation of our choir's ministry.

"Parenting in the Pew" class offered again!

January 6 AND January 13

(Two dates, but only one class.)

Mark your calendars!  We are planning another "Parenting in the Pew" workshop for those who were not able to attend in the fall and for those who attended but would like to learn more.  This workshop will be helpful to parents of preschoolers through grade six.  It will be lead by Karen Shea at 4:30 (during children's choirs) both Sundays.  On the 6th, we will begin the session and it will continue on the 13th to provide plenty of time for questions and discussion.  For most, your children will be in choir, for those who have preschoolers, please contact Karen if you need childcare and we will provide that for you.  We will have great times of discussion and help for each other as we learn more about engaging our children in worship.

Food will be provided and we will have "Parenting in the Pew" books for everyone!

No sign-up is required, just plan to come!

 Dessert Musical to be Presented

Sunday Evening, December 16, 2007
at 5:30 p.m.

The Senior Adult Choir will present the musical "Holy Child"  followed by dessert in the Fellowship Hall.

You Don't Want to Miss It!

N.B. Mills Update

During the month of December, we will be collecting socks, knit hats, and gloves/mittens for the students at N. B. Mills. Boxes will again be located outside the church office.  Teacher treats and treat bags for the children are scheduled for Tuesday, December 11.  If you need help in delivering these to the school, or have questions concerning this, please contact Judy Harwell or Norma Hellard.
