A Word From the Pastor

Seeking God in the New Year

I am looking forward to all that God has in store for Front Street in 2008.  As I shared this past Sunday, we are going to focus for the next several weeks on Seeking God.  What do I mean by that?  Well, there are many Christians who read their Bible, but how many Christians actually study their Bible?  Unfortunately, this number is pretty low.  That is why we spent this past Sunday learning how to do an inductive Bible Study.  I hope you will take the principles we learned Sunday and apply them to your daily time of study.  As we dig into God's Word, we begin to understand better who God is and how He wants us to live our lives.

In addition to studying the Word, we are called to be people of prayer.  Prayer is one of the most underutilized privileges of God's children.  Over the next several weeks, we are going to study in depth the Lord's Prayer.  My prayer is that in this New Year, we are going to become a people who seek the face of God in prayer and the Word.

Youth Pastor Vote this Sunday

At the conclusion of the morning worship service this coming Sunday, January 3, we will have a special called business meeting to vote on the recommendation from the Youth Pastor Search Committee regarding Pastor Jeremy. The Search Committee announced this past Sunday that they believe God is calling Jeremy Miller to become the Youth Pastor of Front Street Baptist Church. The vote will be done by secret ballet and is only available to members of Front Street Baptist Church.

I hope you have a wonderful week and I look forward to our time of corporate worship Sunday.

 For His glory!

Pastor Tim

Youth Pastor Search Committee Announcement

Several months ago, our committee was elected for an overwhelming task, to find the youth pastor that God was preparing for Front Street Baptist Church.  Finding a replacement to carry on the incredible work Pastor Tim had started would be no small task. As a committee, we began to pray that we would be faithful to the responsibility you gave us and diligent in the work set before us.  Seeking God's will became our first priority immediately.

Therefore, it is with tremendous joy in our hearts that we share with the members at Front Street Baptist Church that our committee has heard from the Lord with clarity and certainty.  We have been shown through prayer and seeking God's will that Jeremy Miller is the youth pastor that God has been preparing for our church and we are therefore unanimously presenting Pastor Jeremy as the youth pastoral candidate for Front Street Baptist Church.

Jeremy was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on December 18, 1972, while his father attended Tennessee Temple University.  His family moved to different areas as his father pastored churches in the North Carolina area.  Jeremy followed in his father's footsteps and enrolled at TTU in the fall of 1991.  Michelle was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on August 1, 1973.  Her family also moved to Chattanooga for her parents to attend TTU.  Michelle was a senior at the academy when Jeremy, as a freshman at the university, stole her heart!  They were married on December 4, 1993, put their education on hold, and moved to Statesville to begin a family.

Emily was born in 1996; Brett followed closely behind in 1998.  Jeremy and Michelle felt the call of God upon their lives and moved back to Chattanooga for Jeremy to pursue his degree in theology at TTU.  Nathan was their surprise in 2001!  Jeremy graduated in May of 2002, and God moved them back to Statesville to teach at Southview Christian School.

Through God's leading, they joined Front Street with an open heart to what God had for them.  In March of 2007, Jeremy began serving as our interim youth pastor.  Jeremy and Michelle are excited to see what God will do in His church and His youth group to further His kingdom.  Please pray for them as they endeavor to follow His call for their lives.

"Parenting in the Pew" Class Offered Again!

This Coming Sunday, January 6 AND January 13

(Two dates, but only one class.)

Mark your calendars!  We are planning another "Parenting in the Pew" workshop for those who were not able to attend in the fall and for those who attended but would like to learn more.  This workshop will be helpful to parents of preschoolers through grade six.  It will be led by Karen Shea at 4:30 (during children's choirs) in the Youth Room both Sundays.  On the 6th, we will begin the session and it will continue on the 13th to provide plenty of time for questions and discussion.  For most, your children will be in choir, for those who have preschoolers, please contact Karen if you need childcare and we will provide that for you.  We will have great times of discussion and help for each other as we learn more about engaging our children in worship.

Food will be provided and we will have "Parenting in the Pew" books for everyone!

No sign-up is required, just plan to come!
