 A Word From the Pastor

Praise the Lord!

I hope each one of you will take an opportunity to give God praise for all He did in VBS. Thank you, Karen, and all the workers who gave so much time and effort. God certainly used all of your hard work, prayers and time. Twenty-one children came to faith in Christ during VBS this year. For many others, it helped them grow in their walk with Christ. Please pray for these new Christians and come along beside them to strengthen them in the faith.

This week, you should be receiving a letter in the mail that talks about God's vision for Front Street. I hope that you will take time to read through the letter and then commit this as a matter of prayer. At the heart of this proposal, you will see a vision that is committed to reaching people with the message of Christ, and our process of helping them mature in their faith.

This coming Sunday we begin a new series based on Acts 1:8. My prayer for this series is that we will develop the same heart and passion for missions that God has. Over the next few weeks, I would like to challenge you to read through the book of Acts. May God give us the same boldness and power to take the Gospel to Statesville and around the world.

For HIS Glory!

Pastor Tim

Deacon Nominations

It is time once again for the church body to nominate deacons for the upcoming church year.  The Deacon Body is charged with the responsibility to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of the church body extending to our Saints at Home and Saints in Care.  The function of the Deacon Body is to give leadership for the spiritual development of the members through personal example and deed.

As you think through the nominating process, please read through the qualifications listed in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.  Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.  But let these also first be tested: then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless.  Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.  Let deacons be the husband of one wife, ruling their children and their houses well.  For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

The deadline for nominations is Sunday, July 6.  You can submit your nominations in writing, by email or by calling the church office (704) 872-7623.  Each nominee will be screened by the deacon leadership.  After much prayer and examination, the deacon leadership will present a list of candidates to be voted on at the Family Business Meeting, Sunday evening, August 17th.

Senior Adult and Care Pastor Search Committee Report

After many prayers, phone calls, research and interviews the Senior Adult Search Committee unanimously recommends Dr. Marvin Boyer for the position of Senior Adult and Care Pastor.

We believe his spiritual maturity, his experience, his great love for people and his educational background qualifies him for this position.  The search committee feels strongly that God has led us to Dr. Boyer, and also believe God has called him here.

Dr. Boyer graduated from Bible College in 1960.  He received a B.S. degree in General Music in 1968.  He graduated from Trinity Theological Seminary with a degree in ministry in 1988.  He graduated from the University of Phoenix in Tucson, AZ in 2000 with a MAEd in educational counseling.

Dr. Boyer is the husband of the former Sandra Tilley Hollifield, Judi Bell's sister.  Sandra grew up in Statesville and attended Front Street Baptist Church.  Dr. Boyer and Sandra have been guests at the Young at Heart meetings on two occasions, and presented the program in June.

All the church family is invited to a fellowship to meet Dr. Boyer and Sandra on Saturday, July 12 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served at the meeting in the church Fellowship Hall.

Dr. Boyer will be at the church service on July 13.  The church body will vote, by secret ballot, on whether to extend a call to Dr. Boyer at that morning worship service.

                                                                                   Respectfully Submitted,

                                                                                                Benny Elledge

                                                                                                Judy Harwell

Thank You!

A BIG "thank you" goes out to everyone who helped with and prayed for VBS last week.  Thanks to all the station leaders, crew leaders, helpers, registrars, decorating team, and clean-up crew for all of your efforts.  You are appreciated so much!!

We appreciate all of the sugar cookies and monetary donations for the snacks that the children enjoyed all week.  I also want to thank each of you who brought so many supplies and allowed us to borrow so many things.  You were all a huge part in making the week a great success!

I hope each person who took part in VBS realizes what a blessing you are to our church!  We appreciate you and pray that you received a blessing as well.

We collected over $360.00 to send soccer "GO" balls to Africa where kids can play soccer and learn about Jesus!  Because of this, our VBS efforts and the message of Jesus will carry on...into Africa.  Awesome!

The best news of the entire week is that 21 children prayed to receive Christ during VBS!  Glory to God!!!

Congratulations to Scott & Zach Stewart, Jeremy & Nathan Miller, and Sylvia Moose!  You are the poster and robot winners for the SS class decorations!  These folks were given homemade cakes, donated by Mrs. Judy Harwell.  Thank you, Judy!

A DVD package, which includes the "spotlight drama", a video of the week's activities and Sunday's worship service will be available soon.  Sign-up sheets will be outside the church office.  The cost will be $6.00 per package.
