 A Word From the Pastor

We began a new series this past Sunday on Acts 1:8.  As we explored the history of mankind, we learned that God has always been about restoring fallen man into a right relationship with Him.  God is passionate about missions and we are praying that He will give us that same passion.  May our hearts be broken over the many number of people who do not know Christ personally.

This coming Sunday, our time will focus on Front Street's ends of the earth.  To get you thinking about the ends of the earth, consider these statistics: China has 1.3 billion people, 1.2 billion of whom do not believe in Jesus.  Indonesia is the largest Muslim country made up of nearly 220 million people. Eighty million Bengali Hindus inhabit India and Bangladesh. There are 192 countries in our world today. Out of those 192 countries there are 11,000 documented people groups.  The International Mission Board classifies over half of these groups as unreached groups.  This means that the total number of evangelical Christians among that group totals less than 2 percent of the population.

These numbers are staggering and overwhelming. But the awesome thing is that we, Front Street Baptist Church, can and will be a light to these nations.  I ask you to join me in praying that God will prepare our hearts for what He is calling us to do.  I hope that you are making plans now to attend the Global Missions Celebration on August 8-10.  During this weekend, we will unveil numerous mission opportunities that will allow you to be involved in praying, giving and/or going.

For His glory,
Pastor Tim

Baptism Celebration August 3rd

We are planning a Baptism Celebration for Sunday, August 3.  There are a number of people who have recently accepted Christ or have joined the church and are in need of baptism.  If you would like to be baptized on this day, please contact the church office (704-872-7623) and set up an appointment to meet with Pastor Tim if you have not already spoken with him.

Senior Adult and Care Pastor Search Committee Report

After many prayers, phone calls, research and interviews the Senior Adult Search Committee unanimously recommends Dr. Marvin Boyer for the position of Senior Adult and Care Pastor.

We believe his spiritual maturity, his experience, his great love for people and his educational background qualifies him for this position.  The search committee feels strongly that God has led us to Dr. Boyer, and also believe God has called him here.

Dr. Boyer graduated from Bible College in 1960.  He received a B.S. degree in General Music in 1968.  He graduated from Trinity Theological Seminary with a degree in ministry in 1988.  He graduated from the University of Phoenix in Tucson, AZ in 2000 with a MAEd in educational counseling.

Dr. Boyer is the husband of the former Sandra Tilley Hollifield, Judi Bell's sister.  Sandra grew up in Statesville and attended Front Street Baptist Church.  Dr. Boyer and Sandra have been guests at the Young at Heart meetings on two occasions, and presented the program in June.

All the church family is invited to a fellowship to meet Dr. Boyer and Sandra on Saturday, July 12 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served at the meeting in the church Fellowship Hall.

Dr. Boyer will be at the church service on July 13.  The church body will vote, by secret ballot, on whether to extend a call to Dr. Boyer at that morning worship service.

                                                                                   Respectfully Submitted,

                                                                                                Benny Elledge

                                                                                                Judy Harwell

"I'm a Christian Now!"

New Discipleship Class for Children

"I'm a Christian Now" is a four week class for children who have recently prayed to receive Christ.  This class covers the basics of what happens next.  Things like: what it means to be a Christian, your testimony, baptism, Lord's Supper, the church, and spending time with God.

The class will be taught by Karen Shea during the Sunday School hour in the month of August.  The first class begins August 3 (skipping Aug 10, due to the Acts 1:8 Lay Renewal Weekend). We will meet for worship as usual in the fellowship hall and then move upstairs for the class.

PLEASE let Karen know if your child will be attending.  There is a workbook required, which needs to be ordered.  There is no fee for the class or the workbook.
