 A Word From the Pastor

God has many blessings in store for the congregation of Front Street!  Our Global Missions Celebration is set to begin on Friday at 6:00pm with a church wide fellowship meal.  We have over thirty visiting team members ready to lead us in renewing our passion for the spreading of the Gospel throughout the world.  I hope that you will take the time to pray throughout the week for the outpouring of God's Holy Spirit.

Our services on Sunday will be designed to enhance the Celebration.  Please see the list below in order to know where to go during the Sunday School hour.  All Sunday School teachers (with the exception of the Youth Department), should plan to be in the Sanctuary.  Our visiting team will handle the Sunday School hour for all age groups.  We will continue the celebration in the Worship Service at 10:30am.

It is my hope that everyone will be able to attend the entire weekend or at least a portion of it.

Sunday School Schedule, August 10. 2008

Infants through age 3                Nursery

Ages 4 - Kindergarten               Room 206

First - Rising Sixth Grade          Room 306

Youth                                      Regular Sunday School Rooms

All Adults                                Sanctuary

*All, with the exception of the nursery, will attend the Worship Service
at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary.

Sunday School Teachers do NOT need to prepare a lesson

for this week!

Acts 1:8  But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

Pastor Tim

Acts 1:8 Challenge

On Mission for God

The Acts 1:8 Challenge is going to be an exciting chapter in the life of our church. We will commit hearts, hands, and feet to Jesus' words as we impact our community and world for His kingdom.

The 24 hour Prayer Vigil begins this Thursday at 5 p.m. What is needed are open and ready hearts to kneel before our Lord with Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication (ACTS). The Prayer Vigil will be held in the Sunday School rooms on the front hall as you enter the Education Building from the main parking lot. Our Sunday School classes have already committed to a block of time. There are, however, available time slots. If available, please commit to one (or more) of the following blocks of time:

Thursday, August 7, 2008

5-6 pm

7-8 pm

Friday, August 8, 2008

            7-8 am

            8-9 am

            9-10 am

            12-1 pm

1-2pm

2-3pm

3-4pm

You can sign up 1 of 3 ways: sign up on the sheet in the Fellowship Hall, call the church office, or call Don Lourcey (704.881.3315).

Paul writes in Ephesians 6: "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak."

Our prayer is that just like Paul, as ambassadors in chains for Christ, we earnestly pray for the saints, for renewal, and bold and confident speech as we proclaim the gospel message to our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the world.

Family Business Meeting

 Children in Action

Christmas in August

During the month of August, our Children in Action groups will be involved in Christmas in August.   Many have participated with this mission project in the past and are aware of the impact it has had on missionaries' lives.    This year, both CIA groups (1-3) and (4-6) will join efforts to collect items for missionary Oscar Sanchez.  Oscar is a missionary in Fresno, CA.  The following items will be collected during the entire month of August.  Please drop off your items at any of the "Christmas" collection boxes around the church.

We look forward to seeing what God will do through this opportunity to serve!

Class to Resume August 17

The discipleship class for children, which began this past Sunday, August 3, will skip this coming Sunday, August 10 due to the Acts 1:8 Global Missions Celebration.  The class will resume on Sunday morning, August 17.

   High 5!
Our last High 5 for the summer will be August 13 at 2:30 p.m.  We'll meet at the church and load up our canned food items to take to the Baptist Center.  While we are there, we'll shelve food, sort and hang clothing, and make coloring books and book marks for the clients that come through.  Afterwards, we will eat at Kat's Patch in Troutman.  Bring $5.00 and non-perishable food items.

Do you have news and announcements for Sunday Morning? If so, please send them to: news@frontstreet.org or call the church office by Thursday morning of that week.  N.B. Mills Back -to-School Bash!

On Sunday, August 24th, we have the opportunity to reach out to our Jerusalem in a great way.  We will be throwing a Back-to-School Bash for the families of N.B. Mills Elementary School.  We are expecting around 800 children for this event, and we need lots of help in sharing the love of Jesus with these families.  Ways you can become involved will be communicated in the next couple of weeks.  The event is on Homecoming Sunday, and it will be operating from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.  Please be in prayer for this awesome outreach effort!
