 A Word From the Pastor

In my Link article this week, I would like to take a moment to look back at this past Sunday, and offer a challenge to us all. If you were here Sunday morning, you know things were different from normal. Before the service, there were people walking around trying to sell things that would make worship more convenient or easy. Now, obviously, they were not actually selling anything, but they were illustrating what the atmosphere must have been like for Jesus when He arrived in Jerusalem for Passover. There He found people trying to exploit those who had journeyed many miles to take part in Passover. Some of you shared how you were angered and outraged by the people in the sanctuary Sunday morning. If we were not bothered by that, then there is definitely a problem. It caused me to feel very uncomfortable. For those few moments, we felt a righteous anger that should have been there.

My question for us today is do we experience that same righteous anger over the sin in our lives? Unfortunately, it is easy for us to get upset with the sin around us or in someone else's life. However, we often overlook our own sin and we allow it to remain in our lives. The common word that I have heard over and over about Sunday morning is that it was a powerful service. One long time member told me it was the most powerful

service they had ever been in at Front Street. The reason it was powerful is that Jesus has the power to overcome sin. He has the power to cleanse us through His blood and reconcile us to God. If there is sin in your life that you have overlooked or even entertained, I pray that you will turn from that sin and experience the power of God's forgiveness and deliverance.

Take time this week to praise God for the powerful work He has done in our hearts in bringing us to faith in Him. I would also ask that you take time to read and study through John 3:1-21. In this passage we find Nicodemus, a Pharisee, a ruler of the Jews, come to Jesus in the night. It is in this meeting that we will uncover the very foundation of our Christian life. Jesus told Nicodemus that to enter the kingdom of God, one must be born again.

My prayer is that you will invite a friend, neighbor or relative with you this week that needs to hear the truth concerning the person and work of Christ. I treasure all of your prayers as we proclaim His name each Sunday through our worship and through His Word.

I love you,

Pastor Tim

WHY:  We serve others so we can share Jesus - we are a part of the amazing Toy Store ministry and this is a way all members of our church can contribute the gift of time.

HOW:  Just let Debbie Stewart (debbie@fsmissions.org  or 704-871-1624) or Michelle Lourcey (mlourcey13@bellsouth.net or 704-871-1396) know that you can come - come when you can and for whatever timeframe you can commit.  We just need to know how many folks can commit to this SERVICE opportunity.  (Your Sunday School class could pass a list and give to us.)

If you have a truck and can transport toys that day, please let us know!

Your Commitment to Missions!

Have you taken the time to complete and turn in a "Missions Commitment Guide"?  If not, please pick one up in the Global Missions display in the breezeway.

 Baby Dedication
This Sunday, October 19

We are planning on dedicating babies this coming Sunday, October 19 during the worship service.  Please contact the church office at (704) 872-7623 and let us know if you plan to have your baby dedicated.
Front Street Baptist Church is collecting toys and money to purchase toys for the

Associational Toy Store

during the month of October.

October 19thwill be the Sunday that we ask everyone to bring in the toys for a special time of dedication during the morning worship service.  You can bring in your toys during the entire month of October and drop them off in the missions collection area across from the elevator on the first floor.  You may contribute money by designating it TOY STORE at any time this month.

NOTE:  to help the people pricing the toys, please attach securely to your toys the price you paid for the item.

In the past, we have collected toys in November and had a big emphasis during our Thanksgiving Communion Service.  This year, we are collecting the toys earlier to fit the schedule needed for the Toy Store.  We will collect food for the associational food pantry at our annual Thanksgiving Service.

STATS

From 1994-2007:

Approximately 18,234 children were helped

Approximately 1,654 parents accepted Christ

A mission trip to New York happens each year

Have helped 13 areas begin toy stores

 FALL FUN FEST!

Friday, October 31
6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

We will be having our Fall Fun Fest on Friday, October 31st  from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. This fun filled night will include "Trunks of Treats", hayrides, face painting, games, inflatables and more! Children are welcome to dress up in costumes that are not scary.  This event is for children of all ages. We will be inviting children from NB Mills, the Hispanic Church, and our neighborhood to join us.

We will be using this opportunity to give out tracts in hopes of spreading the gospel to the children and their families.  Our goal is to provide an alternative to the traditional celebration of Halloween as we reach out to families of our church and community. We can do that by providing a Christian environment that is safe and loving especially on this particular night of the year.

WAYS YOU CAN HELP

Donate candy: You can place your donations in the white baskets found throughout the church buildings.

Donate your time:  Open the trunk of your car and pass out candy.

Games and Inflatables:  We also need help during the Fun Fest with games and inflatables.

Please sign up on the bulletin board in the hallway leading to the Fellowship Hall and Education Building if you can help.

If there are other ways that you feel that you can help, please contact Karen Shea.  Thank you in advance for your participation and donations.

We are looking forward to seeing you there!

 Creative People needed:

If you are interested in using your creative gifts to glorify God in worship, please contact Kenny Lamm about joining the Creative Worship Arts team.  We need people good with art, video, photography, drama, interpretive movement, computers, creative ideas, etc. to help us develop worship services that add to the message of the day and help people connect to God.  We meet Sundays at 5:30.  Contact klamm@frontstreet.org if you have interest in serving in this way.

Proposed Church Constitutional Revision

The church will be voting on the following constitutional revision

in our quarterly business meeting on Sunday October 26 at 4:00 p.m. :

Current reading of the constitution (10.6): Raising Funds: It shall not be the practice of this church to promote suppers, parties, or engage in the sale of products and/or services for the purpose of raising funds.

Proposed Change: Raising Funds: No fund raising for this church or in this church for any other group or cause shall be undertaken with the exception of missions fund raising. All missions fund raising would require approval of the Governing Council and the missions team. Other fund raising requests may be considered  as an exception, but would require approval of the body of the church.
