A Word From the Pastor

Gideon Sunday this Sunday

The Gideons International is an interdenominational association of Christian business and professional men who are members of Protestant/evangelical churches. Their members are dedicated to saving the lost through personal witnessing and the distribution of God's Word in more than 180 countries around the world.

Having God's Word can lead people to faith in Christ, and those new Christians can then grow by studying their Scriptures and even use them to share their faith with others.

For this reason, the Gideons focus on distributing complete Bibles or New Testaments. These Scriptures are printed in more than 80 languages and are either given directly to certain individuals or placed in selected public locations where large numbers of people who may be searching for answers will have the ability to encounter the Word of God.

Distributing complete copies of God's Word also . . .

  • Plants powerful seeds that God can use in His timing. (I Corinthians 3:6)
  • Allows people to read the truth for themselves. (John 8:32)
  • Provides a continuing witness when the Gideon is no longer present. (Hebrews 4:12)
  • Makes it easier for the people we reach to in turn reach others with the truth about Jesus. (II Timothy 2:2)
  • Makes it possible for new Christians to learn and grow through personal Bible study. (II Timothy 2:15)

The Gideons have a goal of distributing 100 million Scriptures annually by 2020. Please take time to ask the Father how much He would have you contribute to this ministry of distributing the Word of God to the ends of the earth.

For His glory,
Pastor Tim

Missions Giving and Opportunities

Through the generosity of the members of Front Street Baptist Church at least 26 needy families in our community will be given a Thanksgiving meal in the name of Jesus.  Additionally, Front Street has given over $4,600 to the Associational Toy Store, along with lots of toys, to reach many families for Jesus Christ and provide a more joyful Christmas to hundreds of families.  You have also given greatly of your time to volunteer in the Toy Store in days past as well as in the weeks ahead.  Many additional opportunities are upcoming, such as providing a meal and Christmas tree for Teen Challenge, processing Operation Christmas Tree Shoeboxes in Boone, and later providing gifts for the residents at Teen Challenge.  One vital opportunity you have to impact this world is the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

What is the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering®?

Southern Baptist churches collect the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for the sole purpose of supporting international missions. Every penny of the offering goes to the International Mission Board's overseas budget, thus supporting our missionaries and their work.

What is the goal for this year's offering?

The national goal for the 2008 offering is $170 million. Front Street's goal is $17,000.

What role can I play?

Economic uncertainty affects your families and your church. It also affects every missionary family on the field. Their work cannot go forward without your continued sacrificial giving.  Please make plans to make a sacrificial gift so that many can hear the good news of Jesus Christ!

Operation Christmas Child

Millions of lives will be touched by the shoe box gifts collected this year. Each precious gift is carefully inspected and prepared for overseas shipment. Our church has reserved 36 places to work at the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center in Boone, NC on Friday, December 12 from 4-9 pm.  Anyone 13 years old and older can participate.  This would make a great family missions project.  Note that people might need to leave work or school early that day since we will have to leave Statesville possibly as early as 2:00 (actual time will be set soon).  Please see Kenny Lamm or email klamm@frontstreet.org if you would like to participate.

Our annual Thanksgiving Dinner and Communion Service is tomorrow evening, November 19 at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. respectively.

See you there!

News and Announcements

Do you have news and announcements for Sunday Morning? If so, please send them to: news@frontstreet.org or call the church office by Thursday morning of that week. We will insert your announcement into our slide show presentation before the service begins. Please be sure to include any clipart or photos.

Poinsettias

This year we will use poinsettias in our sanctuary during December.  We will use 18 poinsettias at a cost of $10.50 each and one large poinsettia at a cost of $50.00.  If you wish to place a poinsettia in honor or memory of someone, please contact the church office by Wednesday, December 3.  You may pick up your poinsettias after the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service.

CARE PACKAGE EXPENSES

The Home Front Team for Kit, Avery and Lucas will be sending a Care Package to Cambodia for the Christmas Holidays.  Shipping costs will be the single biggest expense.   We are asking for help from others to cover this expense.   If you would like to help, please give through your normal offering envelope and designate on the "OTHER" line "HOME FRONT CARE PACKAGE".    Checks are still to be payable to Front Street Baptist Church.     We appreciate your help!

FLOWERS:
The Sanctuary Flowers for Sunday, November 23 are placed in loving memory of Beverly Anne Gouge by Bob and Peggy Gouge, Woodrow and Deborah Johnson and Jeff and Carole Medlin.
Thanksgiving is a time for families to get together to fellowship with the love of Christ and be thankful for our country and what we do have.  So, if you have family that loves you, learn to appreciate and accept them.  Be thankful for the air we breathe.  Think of those that have not, like the jobless and the homeless.  That alone will tell you much more than words.  Our nation should thank God, as He will not always have mercy on us.  I'm not alone, although my children have gone on before me, but I'm looking forward to the day we shall be united.  I'm thankful God is always there to lend a helping hand, though sometimes mistakes are made.  But its good to know he will mend the way.  I am Blessed and Thankful.
