New Member's Class - Part 2

Last week I used my Link article to talk about the New Member's Class that will begin in February. I will use this week to follow up and hopefully answer some questions you may have.

Question 1: Is the New Member's Class required for those joining Front Street?

This class will be required for all those seeking membership at Front Street. Some people have asked about people who grew up in a Southern Baptist Church, if it is still necessary for them to attend. The answer to this question is yes. The reason for this is because going over our doctrine as Southern Baptist is only a portion of the class. The class will also talk about the vision and direction as a church; our mission involvement; our service opportunities; our Sunday School and small group opportunities; and our expectations of church members.

Question 2: Do current members have to go through the class?

The answer to this is no. We are not requiring anyone who joins before February 1 to go through the class. However, the class is open to all church members and would be very beneficial to all who have joined in the past year.

Question 3: How long will the classes last?

The class will meet on Sunday mornings from 9:00 until 10:15 a.m. and will last for four weeks.

Question 4: How often will the class be offered?

The class will be offered every other month beginning in February based on the need. This means that we will offer it 6 times per year as long as people are signed up.

Question 5: How many classes can be missed and we still be able to join?

I know that people have work schedules and other responsibilities that may interrupt the class. Since this is just 4 weeks, if someone misses two classes, they have missed half the classes. Therefore, people need to at least make three of the four classes. We hope to video the early sessions so that if people have to miss one, they can watch the DVD. It would also be possible to make up a class the next time the class is offered.

I hope this helps with some of the most common questions. If you have others, please do not hesitate to call or email.

Sermon: John 5:1-15

This week's sermon comes from John 5:1-15. In this passage, Jesus heals a man that had been crippled for thirty-eight years. This marks a transition in the ministry of Jesus. Up until this point, the Pharisees and Jewish rulers had kept their opposition to Christ somewhat quiet. From this point on they became very vocal about their hatred for Him. I hope you will be able to take some time to study through this passage as we prepare for Sunday.

I love you, church family!

Pastor Tim

It's heartbreaking, but every day 3,300 women end their pregnancies with abortion.  They believe it's their only real option.  Imagine facing that decision - without support, without answers.  Is it any wonder why so many pregnancies are terminated?

As believers, we have the opportunity and privilege to share God's truth with women who find themselves in this situation.  We can offer compassion and hope for the future.  This is the work of our local pregnancy center.  By extending care, support and encouragement, we believe a woman's life can be changed forever - for the good.

This month, as a church, we are collecting change or money of any kind, in baby bottles to be returned at the end of the month to donate to the Pregnancy Resource Center of Statesville.  We also have collections sites within the church for diapers (sizes 0, 1 and 2).  If you did not pick up your baby bottle this Sunday - please start collecting your change and pick one up next week.  This is a wonderful way to involve the whole family in a local ministry project!

"Your frame was not hidden from me when I made you in the secret place."

Psalm 139:15

Children's Sunday School

Medical Missions Trip to Honduras

Our church Is sending eleven people to Honduras in February to run a week-long medical clinic at a Baptist church in Choluteca, helping them to reach their community.  The physical and spiritual needs are great in Honduras.  We are working with the Honduras Baptist Convention in partnership with the NC Baptist Men.  We have one doctor, five nurses, a pharmacist, a pharmacy technician, an interpreter, and two additional workers participating in this mission.  We will be hiring a Honduran physician to work with us who will also help coordinate our efforts with the Honduran healthcare system.  Additionally, we will be hiring two Honduran interpreters to help us with communication in the work of the clinic.

Each participant has been asked to cover their expenses with personal funds and possibly by raising support through friends and family.  Each person is also contributing to additional costs of the trip.

This is where you can help out.  The cost of needed medications and supplies to use in our clinic's pharmacy is over $2,500.  We also have purchased Spanish New Testaments and other literature.  In addition, there are expenses of hiring a doctor and two interpreters.  All together, the expenses of the clinic (not including the expenses of the participants) are totaling over $4,500.

If you would like to help us reach Honduras with the good news of Jesus Christ through this medical clinic, you may make a contribution to the clinic's expenses by simply marking Honduras Missions on your check made out to the church.  Or, click this link to make a donation online:  http://fsmissions.info/Donation.html

Any donation you make will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Your Honduras Medical Missions Team
