Daniel
Harmon did a great job of presenting the truth in love this
past Sunday. I am so proud of Daniel as I am sure you are as
well. He is doing an incredible job in ministry, and I pray
that God will continue to use him to preach the Gospel with
boldness, passion and conviction.
This
coming Sunday, we will cover part 2 of From Religion to a
Relationship. Our text will cover John 9:13-41. Getting
kicked out of religion was the greatest thing that ever
happened to this man who had been blind from birth. For in
getting kicked out of religion, he entered into a relationship
with Jesus Christ. This message will be a great follow-up to
the message preached by Daniel this past Sunday. As you study
through the text this week, keep in mind the points from
Daniel's sermon from Matthew 15:1-9.
Evidences
that you love religion but have never been transformed by the
Gospel.
1. You focus on
trivial issues rather than concentrating on that which really
matters.(Matthew 15:2)
2.
You
judge others, but you are not willing to examine yourselves.
(Matthew 15:2)
3.
You honor
tradition above God. (Matthew 15:3-6)
4.
You have no
integrity. (Matthew 15:7-8)
5.
Your worship is
insincere. (Matthew 15:9a)
6.
You substitute the
true Gospel with a false gospel. (Matthew 15:9b)
As
you read our text in John, you will be able to identify these
same principles with those who loved religion more than
Christ. As you read through John 9, notice how the man is
different who has been transformed by the Gospel.
As
we prepare for Sunday, I would like to ask you to take some
special time to pray for me and my preparation as well as
taking special time to pray for our worship service. We are in
such a great need of an outpouring from God.
Expecting
great things,
Pastor
Tim

Church
Wide Meeting
Tomorrow Evening!
On Wednesday
evening, August 26, we will have a church wide meeting to
begin discussions surrounding the issues before us. The
meeting will take place at 6:30 in the sanctuary. After this
initial meeting, the different groups will meet to discuss
specific plans for their areas of ministry. I pray that
God would unite us around His will and vision for our church
family.

Small Groups Beginning!
Wednesday night studies will begin
September 2 at 6:30
Sunday night studies will begin
September 13 at 5:30
Come and be a part of a small group
study!
Opportunities are listed
below.
If you have questions, feel free to
call the leaders of the group.
The Book of James /
Wednesday nights, 6:30
Led by Don
Lourcey
Room
121
We are often
enticed to buy-in to society's view of success, beauty,
relationships and happiness. To the world, truth is whatever
we believe it to be, in other words, truth is relative,
defined by emotions and experiences. Because the world
competes for our attention, we as believers struggle with
authentic, genuine Christian living; we struggle with THE
truth; we struggle with being double-minded. Christian living
is not a drive in neutral but living out in truth what we
believe and profess as it aligns to God's Truth. The letter of
James is a "how-to" book on Christian living. James says that
it is not enough to talk the Christian faith, but we must live
it. This 12 week study in the Book of James will help answer
the questions. "If we say we believe like we should, then why
do we behave like we shouldn't? James offers practical wisdom
to life faithfully, authentically, and
obediently.
Nurturing Your Marriage II
/ Wednesday, 6:30
Led by Cindy
Tucker
Room
104
Nurturing Your
Marriage II is a continuation of the study from last winter
for women (married and engaged) to encourage and strengthen
our role in the marriage relationship as God intended. Our
goal is to live as a godly woman no matter what the response
or the outcome, it's choosing to stay the course. You did not
have to attend the first session to participate in this
session.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it
does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not
self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the
truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always
perseveres. Love never fails. I Corinthians

Parenting by The Book /
Wednesday, 6:30
Led by Walt
Meadors
Creative Worship Arts
Room
Think of an elaborate
jigsaw puzzle. You can tell from all the different designs and
colors that completing it will be a challenge. There are few
other things you need to know before you start the project.
The border pieces have all been removed. I know it's easier to
start a jigsaw puzzle by putting the edge pieces together
first. That gives you an early sense of accomplishment before
you move on to the difficult stuff. Forgot to mention that
someone threw in some pieces from a different puzzle into the
box. They may look like they belong to this one, but they
don't. They won't fit no matter how hard you try. Ready to
start? You probably can figure it out. All you need is the
picture on the box cover and you can begin. Oops! I forgot to
tell you that the cover to the box has been lost. You're going
to have to guess what the picture puzzle is supposed to look
like. Doesn't this sound like fun? Not really. It's tough
enough when you have all the right pieces, all the edge pieces
and the picture on the box. Take all those things away and
it's anybody's guess what you will come up
with.
Sound familiar?
Welcome to the parenting puzzle. The above example aptly
describes the job of raising children. "Raising children is
the single greatest thing you will ever do. You have been
handed a piece of history in advance, a gracious gift you will
send to a time you will not see and you (the parent) play the
biggest role in how that history will ultimately be recorded".
(take from Grace based Parenting)
You need a plan
for parenting that works and has stood the test of time - The
Book; The Bible. God's instruction guide to parenting. Come
join us on Wednesday nights and develop your plan for raising
your children while not completely exasperating you.

Led by Michelle

Find your PLACE! This
small group is more than finding a "place of service" in the
church -- it is finding the "right" place of service based on
your personality, spiritual gifts and life experiences. Even
if you have served the Lord in ministry for years, you can
still learn so much from PLACE. This is a journey to find out
how God has knitted you together to best serve
HIM!

Book of Jonah / Sunday,
5:30
Led by Pastor
Marvin
Room
121
Last semester,
the "Jonah class" got as far as verse 13 of the first chapter.
We will continue from there after a review of the earlier
verses. Just as Jonah will be going into the depths, so the
class will be going as deep into the Word as they can. Anyone
wishing to participate is welcome to do so even if they were
not in the previous class.
Victoriously Frazzled /
Sunday, 5:30
Led by Dixie

Room

"Our God
is a frazzle-friendly God! Not only will He enter into our
stressful circumstances, He longs to be there to bring His
relief, comfort and joy." These are the opening words of
"Victoriously Frazzled" and eight week light-hearted,
Bible-based course for ladies of all ages. Sessions include:
Frazzle Friendly, Control Freaks and I'm Getting
Old.
College and Career / Sunday
5:30
Led by Tim Stutts
Location: TBA
George Barna estimates that over
the last 10 years, 8 million adults in their twenties have
left the church. That statement hits me like a ton of bricks.
My heart is broken over the number of young adults who no
longer find church to be an essential part of their
life. My prayer is that we will see in a change in that
trend at Front Street Baptist Church. College and Career
ministry is one area where the vast majority of churches are
struggling. I believe God has called me and given me a passion
for this age group in our church.
We are still in the early stages of
planning, but right now we are looking at gathering on Sunday
nights at 5:30. At this point, I am working to secure us a
place to meet each week.
If you are a college freshman or a
college veteran, this is a place for you. If you just started
a new career or have a few years of experience behind you,
this will be a great for you as well. We have several people
who also feel called to this ministry that will be investing
in the lives of these young adults. If this is an area that
interest you, please contact Tim at tim@frontstreet.org to
discuss opportunities for
involvement.

Celebrate
Recovery News.......
Let me start by saying a heartfelt
Thank you to our sister, Bobbie James, for sharing a personal
and powerful testimony last Monday. WOW. Also, we
hope you Don't miss the Celebrate Recovery Picnic at
Stumpy Creek on Lake Norman this Saturday, August 29 11:00 -
4:00. We will be celebrating with three other churches
with Celebrate Recovery programs; Southside Baptist in
Mooresville, Catawba Heights in Belmont and Front
Street. We will have hamburgers, hot dogs,
chicken and all the works. Bring a dessert to share.
Live music, horse shoes, boat rides and, of course, lots
of love, hugs and praise for what God has done in our
lives! That's why it's called CELEBRATE
RECOVERY!
On Monday, August 31, Dan will lead us in a
Bible study on TURN, where we discuss howwe learn to turn our lives and our
wills over to Christ's care & control.
This lesson will focus on
Romans 12:1,
"Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to
offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to
God. This is your spiritual act of
worship." We will
discuss that we must first commit and surrender our lives to
the true higher power, Jesus Christ, and then we are able to
run over our wills to Him.
We encourage you to
come to CR and check it out. You'll be glad you
did. This mission is much needed by our community.
If you want to practice GRACISM, as we have been discussing in
our Sunday Schools, this is a great place to begin!

Baptist Church and we need walkers of all ages. Walkers

THANK
YOU:
To the Members of Front Street Baptist Church,
We wish to thank all of you for thoughtfulness and
kindness shown to us during the loss of Frances.
Thanks for all your prayers, your kind words and times spent
with Frances. She certainly loved her church and her
church "family". She will certainly be missed but she
is finally at home.
Thank you for the most delicious meal you served to
us. It was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by
everyone. Thanks for everything.
God Bless Each of You,
Jim and Barbara Kyles
To my Church Family at Front Street Baptist
Church,
I sincerely appreciate all the cards, calls, visits,
gifts, flowers and the many prayers that were lifted up to
God during my recent illness and surgery. The recovery
is slow but I know you are continuing to pray for me.
The pathology report was benign and we thank God for that
report. I thank God you providing me with a prayerful
church. Thank you for all you have done.
