A Word From the Pastor

I Am the Good Shepherd

This coming Sunday, we will cover the fourth I AM statement of Jesus Christ. This week, I would ask you to study through John 10:11-21. Pay close attention to the intimacy between the Shepherd and the sheep. Notice all the things the Shepherd says He will do for His sheep.  I pray that God will use this text to give us a greater understanding of our relationship with Him. Looking forward to our time in God's presence Sunday morning!

Shower for Lupita Moore

The Hispanic congregation has invited us to join with them in a shower they are throwing for Daniel and Lupita. The shower will be at the church this coming Saturday at 5:00 and supper will be provided. Daniel and Lupita are such a blessing not only to the Hispanic congregation, but also to us. I hope we can use this opportunity to minister to them and show them our love and support.

Prayer Targets

Please continue to pray with us over the following things:

·         That we would experience a freshness of God in worship. 2 Chronicles 7:1-3, Psalm 29:2, Psalm 86:8-10 and Psalm 100:1-3

·         That God would bless us with an outpouring of His Spirit. Isaiah 44:3-4, Isaiah 58:11 and Ephesians 5:17-21

·         That God would give us unity. John 17:20-23 and Philippians 2:1-10

Global Missions Celebration Weekend

Don't let anything keep you from attending this year's Global Missions Celebration September 18-20.  We will have missionaries from all around the world present.  There will be a missions fair, hands on missions projects, celebration events looking at what God has accomplished through Front Street in missions this year, stirring missionary testimonies, and much more.  More details will be released in the next few days, including the schedule of events, which run Friday night through Sunday morning. Make plans now for your family to attend!

Small Groups Beginning!

Wednesday night studies began September 2, and

Sunday night studies will begin this Sunday, September 13, at 5:30

Come and be a part of a small group study!

Opportunities are listed below.

If you have questions, feel free to call the leaders of the group.

The Book of James / Wednesday nights, 6:30

Led by Don Lourcey

Room 121

We are often enticed to buy-in to society's view of success, beauty, relationships and happiness. To the world, truth is whatever we believe it to be, in other words, truth is relative, defined by emotions and experiences. Because the world competes for our attention, we as believers struggle with authentic, genuine Christian living; we struggle with THE truth; we struggle with being double-minded. Christian living is not a drive in neutral but living out in truth what we believe and profess as it aligns to God's Truth. The letter of James is a "how-to" book on Christian living. James says that it is not enough to talk the Christian faith, but we must live it. This 12 week study in the Book of James will help answer the questions. "If we say we believe like we should, then why do we behave like we shouldn't? James offers practical wisdom to life faithfully, authentically, and obediently.

Nurturing Your Marriage II / Wednesday, 6:30

Led by Cindy Tucker

Room 104

Nurturing Your Marriage II is a continuation of the study from last winter for women (married and engaged) to encourage and strengthen our role in the marriage relationship as God intended. Our goal is to live as a godly woman no matter what the response or the outcome, it's choosing to stay the course. You did not have to attend the first session to participate in this session.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. I Corinthians 13:4-8

Parenting by The Book / Wednesday, 6:30

Led by Walt Meadors

Creative Worship Arts Room

Think of an elaborate jigsaw puzzle. You can tell from all the different designs and colors that completing it will be a challenge. There are few other things you need to know before you start the project. The border pieces have all been removed. I know it's easier to start a jigsaw puzzle by putting the edge pieces together first. That gives you an early sense of accomplishment before you move on to the difficult stuff. Forgot to mention that someone threw in some pieces from a different puzzle into the box. They may look like they belong to this one, but they don't. They won't fit no matter how hard you try. Ready to start? You probably can figure it out. All you need is the picture on the box cover and you can begin. Oops! I forgot to tell you that the cover to the box has been lost. You're going to have to guess what the picture puzzle is supposed to look like. Doesn't this sound like fun? Not really. It's tough enough when you have all the right pieces, all the edge pieces and the picture on the box. Take all those things away and it's anybody's guess what you will come up with.

Sound familiar? Welcome to the parenting puzzle. The above example aptly describes the job of raising children. "Raising children is the single greatest thing you will ever do. You have been handed a piece of history in advance, a gracious gift you will send to a time you will not see and you (the parent) play the biggest role in how that history will ultimately be recorded". (take from Grace based Parenting)

You need a plan for parenting that works and has stood the test of time - The Book; The Bible. God's instruction guide to parenting. Come join us on Wednesday nights and develop your plan for raising your children while not completely exasperating you.

PLACE / Sunday, 5:30

Led by Michelle Lourcey

Room 112

Find your PLACE! This small group is more than finding a "place of service" in the church -- it is finding the "right" place of service based on your personality, spiritual gifts and life experiences. Even if you have served the Lord in ministry for years, you can still learn so much from PLACE. This is a journey to find out how God has knitted you together to best serve HIM!

P - Personality Discovery

L - Learning Spiritual Gifts

A - Abilities Assessment

C - Connecting Passion with ministry

E - Experiences of Life

Our responsibility is to help you find the way that God has knitted you together . "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. Jeremiah 1:5

Book of Jonah / Sunday, 5:30

Led by Pastor Marvin

Room 121

Last semester, the "Jonah class" got as far as verse 13 of the first chapter. We will continue from there after a review of the earlier verses. Just as Jonah will be going into the depths, so the class will be going as deep into the Word as they can. Anyone wishing to participate is welcome to do so even if they were not in the previous class.

Victoriously Frazzled / Sunday, 5:30

Led by Dixie Hare

Room 104

"Our God is a frazzle-friendly God! Not only will He enter into our stressful circumstances, He longs to be there to bring His relief, comfort and joy." These are the opening words of "Victoriously Frazzled" and eight week light-hearted, Bible-based course for ladies of all ages. Sessions include: Frazzle Friendly, Control Freaks and I'm Getting Old.

College and Career / Sunday 5:30

Led by Tim Stutts

Location: The Home of Bob Cook

George Barna estimates that over the last 10 years, 8 million adults in their twenties have left the church. That statement hits me like a ton of bricks. My heart is broken over the number of young adults who no longer find church to be an essential part of their life.  My prayer is that we will see in a change in that trend at Front Street Baptist Church.  College and Career ministry is one area where the vast majority of churches are struggling. I believe God has called me and given me a passion for this age group in our church.

We are still in the early stages of planning, but right now we are looking at gathering on Sunday nights at 5:30. At this point, I am working to secure us a place to meet each week.

If you are a college freshman or a college veteran, this is a place for you. If you just started a new career or have a few years of experience behind you, this will be a great for you as well. We have several people who also feel called to this ministry that will be investing in the lives of these young adults. If this is an area that interest you, please contact Tim at tim@frontstreet.org to discuss opportunities for involvement.

Celebrate Recovery News.......

Celebrate Recovery is growing! Word is spreading and new people are showing up. We have an exciting time planned for Sept. 14. Andy Lineberger, a great Christian friend of mine, and the new leader of CR at Southside Baptist Church in Mooresville, will be giving his personal testimony. Andy had a history of drug addiction, and attributes his recovery to the Celebrate Recovery program. It was a pleasure to be a small part of his recovery and watch him grow spiritually. Andy is also an accomplished musician and will be sharing his unique style of music with us throughout the night. The Branches Sunday School class has volunteered to provide the meal and will be serving homemade spaghetti. As I stated earlier, CR is growing and we need more volunteers. Greeters, child care, providing a meal, sponsors, accountability partners, and leaders are all needed. Please contact me or Brenda at CR@frontstreet.org or 704-779-7094 to discuss where you can serve in this ministry. Believe me, you will be blessed!

MISSIONS OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL CHURCH MEMBERS!

The Lifewalk for the Pregnancy Resource Center of Statesville will be held on Saturday, September 19th, with registration beginning at 8:30 am and the walk starting at 9:15 am.  This is a 2 mile walk to be held at First Baptist Church and we need walkers of all ages.  Walkers as young as 6 may sign up on their own and get their own pledges.  After the walk, there will be a light brunch and prizes will be awarded.  Because this is one of our Jerusalem missions, we would love to have a large representation from Front Street this year.  Adults can sign up with Kisha Clark and youth and children can sign up with Madison Clark.  For additional information, call 704-878-9036.

First, we would like to thank you for your interest in Front Street.  Before becoming a member, we feel that you should truly understand our heart and vision before you join our church family, and the new member's class is designed to help you have a clear understanding of your new church family.

Please note that you are not required to join Front Street after attending the New Member's Class.  In fact, you will not be pressured in any way to join.  We want to encourage you to continue to seek God's will on whether He desires for you to plant your life here with us.

The new member's class is a four week class, held during the Sunday School hour.  The next class will be held  in October.  Those dates for the adult class or for the children's class are October 4, 11, 18 and 25.  To sign up for the adult class (which includes youth), or to sign your child up for the children's class, please contact the church office at (704) 872-7623 or email Pastor Tim at tim@frontstreet.org.

Iredell County Fair Ministry

Your Association of 73 Churches ministers every year to the carnie workers that comes to the fair to work. This year the fair is September 6-12.

Now is the time to volunteer. We serve 2 meals a day, give hair cuts, serve snacks, give everyone a Bible, and tell them about Jesus. The whole point is to lead the lost to Christ.  Your SYBAssociation built a beautiful shelter in August at the fair ground to house this ministry. You are needed! Please volunteer and be a part of this rewarding ministry.  Call for more information. Call Sandra Harrison at 704-873-4372 ext.6 or Mary Jane Hoover at 704-873-4372-ext.3.
